As a child all I knew of the Queen of Hearts was how Disney had portrayed her in the feature length cartoon.
Todays children have several diverse reference points.
So I decided for my puppet version I would mix the all up into a homogernous. blend.
That tends to be how I approach most designs :
Steal bits from many sources and convert them into a Coombsie-Style.

I used a nice block of knot free LIME wood for the face as it carves like a dream.
But just some scrap PINE that I found in my woodwork shed for the arms.

This is my current preferred method to carve heads in Lime wood.
First cutting the sections apart on a bandsaw before shaping & sanding them.
Then reassemble the pieces with PVA glue.

Next it's what every Glove puppet needs : A glove body.

On the playing card and Tenniel drawings, I really like the geometric patterns for her dress.
So it's got to be freehand embroidery and aplice on my trusty Bernina 1008

A very similar process to make her neck-piece.
But this time with extra layers of interfacing and stiffening to make a stand out collar.

Paintwork done, so it's time to construct a tight bun hairdo out of wool.
Velvet balaclava to cover and blend all exposed areas.

OFF WITH HIS HEAD !!!
