Mr Punch BASE.jpg
Full Set of
MR. PUNCH Duplicates

This will most likely be the last set of Mr Punch that I ever build.

I have just finished my 2026 Summer season, and the Punch I used up at Heights of Abraham was built back in 2014.

So if this new set lasts for 12 years too, it should see me into retirement.

Quite a sobering thought.

So I am going to try and make them the best ones I've ever made!

It will be a Herculean Labour, as there will be eleven Punch puppets, and two Crocodiles in the full set.

Fortunately I had already started making a lot of the clothes back in 2018.

Bugsy is inspecting the work.

I've decided not to go with the green striped trousers shown here - I think Blue will look stronger.

Having most of the clothing made will be a huge help ...there is so much carving to do that I might not finish them in time otherwise.

'Production-Line' style duplication was the name of the game here.

I tend to concentrate on one part of the costume at a time and just repeat, repeat, repeat until there are enough.

The Jacket sleeves were next on the sewing 'production line'.

The sleves are lined, and have braided detailing at the cuff.

Golds and green in the hat brim are echoed on the jacket cuffs.

There is also a massive amount of work in each of the jacket humps.

Getting the beading identical on each one is very time consuming.

It's worth all the fiddly hand sewing to get the beading right : it looks great.

Humps fixed to the main jacket sections. It is nice to have the current Mr Punch to model the new outfits.

My current Punch has a very dark plum red jacket with light green trim.

For this set I have decided to reverse that :

The jacket will be a very bright red , while the green trims will be darker.

Back in 2018 I thought some of the duplicates would include a 'marrotte' Punch and one a ghost could swing outside the booth.

There will be two different Crocodiles this time :

Normal sized for my touring /schools show, and a HUGE one for use only up at the Heights of Abraham.

So it was lucky I had made so many copies of the jacket, as I will definitely be utilising them all in the new set.

Making a start on the waistcoats.

Back to the present day, and  it's time to make four duplicate Ruffs.

You never know how they will look until you see them 'ruffled' - I love it !

I was very happy with how the test one turned out, so I made the other three.

Ruffs all done !

LOTS MORE PICTURES AND INFO WILL BE ADDED TO THIS PAGE IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE

CHECK BACK AGAIN SOON      Cheers Richard.
