SHOW TIMES BOARD

Procreate drawing app (one of the very cheapest apps for iPad) allows me a look air how the finished board should look in the theatre.

Getting the original sketch onto plywood.

It doesn't need to be accurate, it is a guide only: not a blueprint.

To keep the weight as low as possible I am using thin plywood.

So to hep prevent it warping I am glueing second layer to the back edges.

A faux frame is glued and pinned into place.

The frame will give the flat sculpts a level to butt up to.

Also it should help the plywood not warp as the pulp dries.

Corrugated cardboard quickly bulks out the flat sculptures.

This will minimise the amount of paper Pulp needed, and therefore also help keep down the overall weight.

Hopefully later in the Spring I will upload a video tutorial of how to make this Paper Pulp for yourself at home.

At this stage it is good to get the connection lug completed.

This is the part which lets me fix this new board into the black playboard stand that the 'Brexitannia' board used. No need to build a whole new stand.

As I always say when working in Paper Pulp - the only way to sculpt effectively with it is by using layers. Lots and lots of layers !

Close up look at sculpting the Baby.

Drying out on the radiator along with a couple of stick puppets.

Time to trim off the excess plywood and add the slot at the back to take a drop in 'Pre-Show' signboard.

Having the "Pre-Show" sign removable will be doubly useful:

I can use the main board at other places than the Heights of Abraham without the top section.

And at Heights on very windy days I can leave the top off.

As you can see both parts together are exactly the same height as the old 'Brexitania' board.

Aluminium cooking foil used to bulk out a rough face shape.

Sculpting the faces used up the last of that batch of pulp.

Time to make another batch of Paper Pulp.

Wooden beads make quick eyes.

Procreate on the iPad allows me to mock up a visualisation of how it could look when finished.

This was a useful exercise as I can see right away that although I am happy with Mr. Punch, Judy does not look balanced.

Fortunately pulp is easy to alter.

As well as being able to add more layers over the top, it's fairly simple to cut sections out and remove them .

Or like here, cut them out, trim them a bit and put them back somewhere different.

Then remodel new pulp over the top.

LOTS MORE PICTURES AND INFO WILL BE ADDED TO THIS PAGE IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE

CHECK BACK AGAIN SOON      Cheers Richard.

I hope you enjoy my website . I designed and built it myself using WIX
