Throughout its 362 year History, Punch and Judy has always had a large element of social commentary and satire. Current events in America warrant a brief mention in my 2025 season.
But I absolutely refuse to glorify Trump by having a puppet of him, even to bash him with the Slapstick.
Having this guy appear and disrupt the show only to get a good dose of ridicule is far better than including Trump.
Adults will get the reference , and to the children he will just be a silly looking Bogeyman.
Sadly sculpting reference photos were not difficult to find online. During the Jan 6th Riots, this guy must have had hired his own publicist !
Hopefully later in the year I will publish a video tutorial showing how you can make my Paper Pulp for yourselves at home.
At the moment the Shamens face is no more than a 'mask'.
To turn the face into a full puppet head it needs fixing to a skull shape.
The skull needs to be able to be ultimately fixed to a dowel rod, so this pulp section was built with that in mind.
First the face part is angled to give a nice performance eye-line.
Then the horns are positioned with dabs of hot glue.
A layer of Pulp will firmly fix everything together.
First chance to see the head and body put together.
Giving his torso a flat plywood base with a hole for the head dowel rod.
