Turn Again WHITTINGTON DICK

No !

Not that one...

This puppet is being made because of the kindness of WHITTINGTON PRIMARY SCHOOL.

In early March 2026 I had the pleasure of doing a show at this charming village school.

... This one.

The whole atmosphere in the school was warm and happy.

Performing there was a truly lovely experience.

And they wrote a lovely review.

Thank You

Not only that, but I was gifted a couple of unused cushion covers from the Staff Room.

I made a joke about them being perfect for puppet making.

It turned out they belonged to a teacher, and they had been there, over the back of a chair with no cushions in for months.

So they gave them to me.

SO I JUST HAD TO USE THEIR FABRIC TO MAKE A NEW PUPPET.

As I already had my next character in mind, I was able to start very fast.

I only had a rough sketch at first.

Fortunately I already had a paper pulp head waiting in the wings unused from a different build.

He started life destined to be the 'Stretchy Ice Cream Clown' . But plans change, and now he will be a 'Revolving Plate Spinning Clown' instead.

I will use the pink and purple fabrics to chequerboard effect. The back of the puppet will have opposite colours to the front when he spins.

Woodwork section all done, and starting on sewing the back panel of costume.

Braids, decorative over-stitching and buttons.

"Button Button -

Who's got  the button!"

Stitching the Front Panel and all the Hat parts.

Getting the wig knotted. Cannot trim it neatly to shape until it is stuck onto his painted head.

Making his matching neck ruff.

My cat Bugsy supervising getting the pink buttons sewn on.

"Button Button -

Who's got  the button!"

Pom Poms look very raggedy when they first come off the making rig.

But they look cuter after a trim.

It's satisfying to see a mock up of how he could look once finished.

Stitching on costume jewellery.

I have a large list of puppets and props that need making for my Heights of Abraham summer season.

So for a few weeks I shall need to Pause building on this puppet.

All remaining fabrics and parts have been temporarily bagged up.

LOTS MORE PICTURES AND INFO WILL BE ADDED TO THIS PAGE IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE

CHECK BACK AGAIN SOON      Cheers Richard.
