My tribute to our Covid Hero

YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE !

We carved a couple of heads in tandem with each other.

Toms head was actually begun years earlier while I had a fellow puppeteer and friend Sue Beatie visiting my workshop.

We carved a couple of heads in tandem with each other.

Sue made her pretty lady, and I used the offcuts and rearranged them a bit to make "Wilburt"

It was an experiment to show Sue that you can use the same cut out jigsaw shapes of wood to make two very different characters.

Wilburt stayed in the 'Unfinished Heads' box for about three years until in 2020 I realised he would be a perfect starting point for quickly making a Captain Tom.

Even more perfect was the fact I had already made Wilburt some downward facing gripping hands.

I had intended him to be a 'grandad' type character with a zimmer frame.

With some well chosen glasses, and a bit of paper Pulp :

Wilburt becomes Tom.

The Fettig puppetry book I used to pour over as a teenager was full of stick puppets with floating torsos .

Tom is very Fettig inspired.

For ease of storage, Tom is removable from his trademark walking frame.

LOTS MORE PICTURES AND INFO WILL BE ADDED TO THIS PAGE IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE.       CHECK BACK AGAIN SOON      Cheers Richard.
